Questions to ask movers before you get help from them are not really known by many. Let us get straight to assisting you. To find out whether the moving company is reliable and reputable, here are the 5 questons you should ask:

  1. How long has the company been in business? – the longer the better.
  2. Have any complaints been filed against the company? If so, what were they and what measures have they taken to rectify the situation?
  3. Do they have reviews or have references?
  4. Are they properly licensed?
  5. What kind of liability coverage does the company provide? Can I get additional insurance?

  1. Can you provide a binding quote or a not-to-exceed estimate?
  2. Are there any potential charges I’m not already aware of?
  3. What additional moving supplies will I be paying for?
  4. Do you have a cancellation policy?

  1. How do I get in touch with the driver?
  2. How do I contact your company during the move?
  3. What are your non-allowable?
  4. Is there a third-party service provider that will be involved in moving specialty items like a pool table, piano or grandfather clock? If so, who are they?
  5. What forms of payment do you accept?
  6. How long will the move take?
  7. What is the process for filing a claim for damaged or broken items? Who’s responsible?

Bonus Tip: Three kinds of moving contracts

  1. A non-binding estimate on your contract means the company cannot require payment more than 10% above the original estimate. Any overages must be paid within 30 days of delivery.
  2. A non-binding to-exceed estimate on your contract ensures that you will not have to pay for any overages to the original estimate. The estimate is the maximum you’ll be required to pay for any services rendered.
  3. A binding estimate on your contract is supposed to be a guaranteed price for the move and all extras and services. If you request additional services (such as unpacking), any extra fees must be paid within 30 days of delivery.
